Whether you are an occasional baker or a devout “cake boss,” join me as I document my culinary journey and cake decorating successes (and failures!).
About The Blog
The blog is about baking, but also MUCH more. It’s about family, memories, cooking together, and lots of laughter. Together with my family and friends, I bake and share my experiences including tips, tricks and advice with a dash of humor. I will be blogging about everything from my favorite recipes to decorating cakes for special occasions. Over the years, I’ve made many beautiful things (and some God awful mistakes, too!). MaBakes.com is my ode to these experiences, and–you guessed it–cake!
Hi! I’m the “Ma” in Ma Bakes, about 6 years ago, I took a Wilton cake decorating class with my niece, and the rest is history. Since then, I’ve jumped heart and soul first into the baking world. I’ve taken several courses at the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC and classes with a number of well-known cake artists (Benny Rivera of City Cakes, Anne Heap owner of Pink Cake Box, Lisa Rochelle owner of Sweet Grace Cake Designs and the renowned Toba Garrett).
Of course, baking and family go together like cookies and milk. Family is a huge part of my life and I am proud to be a part of a crazy, blended group of eight—myself, my amazing hubby, 3 sons and two step sons (ranging from 29 to 32 years old), and 1 step daughter (27 years old). Now we have two new additions to the family two wonderful daughters in laws and soon to be son in law. Over the years, our family has made many many memories in the kitchen.
I live (and bake!) in Tarrytown, New York (any Washington Irving / Sleepy Hollow fans out there?). Located just north of New York City in Westchester County, I’m fortunate to have access to some of the industry’s top educational resources and professionals. I look forward to sharing my journey with you!
